GOOD SAMARITAN
LUTHERAN MISSION CHURCH

gsnewyear4.jpg

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church began its ministry on September 12, 2010 when the Rev. William Siong, pastor/developer at Good Samaritan, was installed at a festive worship service at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Siong, who until July 31, 2010, served as pastor at Hmong Central Lutheran in St. Paul, was called to begin this ministry as an outreach to the growing Hmong community on St. Paul’s East Side.  What will be different, according to Siong, is that Good Samaritan will seek to cross clan boundaries.  There are 18 clans in the Hmong community, and in most Hmong congregations one clan makes up the majority of the congregation.

“That’s why I chose the name Good Samaritan,” Siong said, “because that parable is a story about crossing clan boundaries.   I see this new congregation as not a place to be served but instead to serve the community of faith with gifts that God has graciously bestowed upon us.  He especially gave us the gifts of language and talents, so we will use them wisely to praise and serve him to the best of our abilities.  And we will ask God to help us.”
