Souper Bowl of Caring
February 7th
February 7th is the NFL’s Super Bowl Sunday. Another national event, the Souper Bowl of Caring is prominent among churches that Sunday. Last year thousands of congregations, community groups and schools donated over 10 million dollars during the Souper Bowl of Caring to help poor and hungry people all over the world. For 21 years the goal for Souper Bowl of Caring is for each member of a congregation to drop $1 into a Soup Bowl on Sunday, February 7th. Your donations at Grace will aid the hungry through ELCA’s World Hunger program. The Missions Committee urges each member of Grace to attend services on February 7th and to contribute $1 to our Souper Bowl of Caring on Super Bowl Sunday.

The List Grows On
Katharine Richter and Nancy Zitzewitz extended an invitation to join in the challenge of growing hair to donate to Locks of Love. This is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. A hair prosthetic helps to restore a child’s self-esteem and confidence, enabling the child to face the world and peers.
Nancy was the first person who donated her hair to Locks of Love. In recognition she received a “locket of love” to wear. She passed the “locket of love” to Katharine, who was the next person who “cut it off”.
Katharine then passed the locket on to Jessica McCoy, who passed it on to Jenny Smeby, who passed it on to Cassie Pray, who passed it on to Kaity Major, who passed it on to Gerry Lindquist! Next in line to receive the “locket of love” is Lynda Johnson (LJ). Please let Katharine, Nancy, or someone in the church office know, when you are ready for your turn to wear the locket. We hope to pass it on and on and on….
At any time if you wish to commit to donating 10 inches of hair for this worthy cause, please sign on the dotted line on the sign-up sheet next to the elevator in the Good Shepherd Lounge or notify Katharine or Nancy. (Shorter hair and gray hair is acceptable if … For further details, please see the information with the sign-up sheet or check out the website at www.locksoflove.org.)
Support is needed for all who commit. On a hot day, a bad hair day, or a heavy-headed day, the temptation may be to cut it off! Growers need support!
Let’s continue to pass the locket of love and most importantly, let’s support the children who benefit from Locks of Love!
Name Tags
The Outreach Committee members have assembled name tags for each member of Grace. We hope that by using them we will enable all of us to become better acquainted with one another. Please remember to wear yours each time you come to worship.
