UPCOMING EVENTS God's Closet
During the month of May Grace will be highlighting a wonderful opportunity for our members to reach out to the local community with clothing, linens, dishes, cookware, personal items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) and/or money to purchase needed items and underwear. Please bring any items to the facility located at 820 White Bear Ave., or bring to Grace and the Mission Committee will deliver it. Remember to bring clean, wearable proper season clothes in good condition. There will be a box in the Good Shepherd Lounge for those wishing to donate cash/and or a check payable to Grace and we will issue one check for God’s Closet. Sunday, May 20th Please remember in your prayers this year's confirmation class. There are 5 students preparing for public affirmation of their baptism during 9:30 a.m. worship service. What a privilege it is to watch these young people mature in their faith and to hold them in prayer. ______________________________ Church Picnic
Sunday, May 20th Congregational Life will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, beans, potato salad, ice cream and beverages. Would the congregation please provide cookies or bars to serve with the ice cream for dessert? This year’s picnic will be held outdoors. We will have tents set up in the lower parking lot. We will have a jumper for the children. It should be fun to watch them and enjoy the summer air as well. ______________________________ FUTURE EVENTS ______________________________ 2012 Summer Bible Study "Along the Way", written by the Rev. Julie A. Kanarr of Port Townsend, Washington. She is a pilgrim-student of the Bible, has traveled extensively and will put us in conversation with biblical travelers on journeys of faith in 3 sessions of study found in Gather magazine, June and July/August issues. We'll meet Jacob; desert-wanderers with Moses; and companions of Jesus, all of whom will cause us to reflect on our journeys of faith. Plans are in the works for an August get-together and Bible Study at church. Watch for details. ______________________________ Book Sale
Saturday, June 2nd Bring donations to the church office the last two weeks in May. Donation receipts will be given. We plan to sell paper back books for $.50 and hardcover books for $1.00. All profits are used to update the library at Grace. Thank you. ______________________________ Graduates
Sunday, June 3rd If you are graduating this year from high school, college/university, graduate school, training program, etc. - we want to recognize and celebrate your achievement at the worship service. Please let the church office (651-774-9617) know if you or anyone in your family is graduating, and what you are graduating from. Thank you! ______________________________ Cancer Awareness - Worship, Walk & Run
Sunday, June 24th So many of us have been touch by cancer, directly or indirectly, with our own illness, and in seeing family, friends, neighbors and co-workers struggle. And in society at large, we've seen the toll that cancer takes on those who worked in certain industries, the way certain forms of cancer can afflict some groups of people more than others, and how those who don't have adequate health insurance struggle with cancer without the means to properly treat their condition. We will have a Cancer Awareness Sunday, sharing stories of life, grieving those who have died, and looking in hope to a day when cancer is no more. If you would like to participate in this service, please speak with Sue Wickert or Pastor Chris. . . . . . . . . .
Saturday, June 30th We will also have a Grace Lutheran team participate in a Kids Fun Run, 5K Walk, and 5K/10K Runs at the Time to Fly event on Harriet Island in St Paul (proceeds to benefit the Children's Cancer Research Fund). Donations for the cancer run may be given to the church (be sure to mark the check or envelope "Cancer") or made online. To register for the event online and join the Grace Lutheran team:

She has served as professor at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago; Moravian Theological Seminary; Yale Divinity School. Mark your calendars now for this Bible Study at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, St. Paul for enrichment/overview led by the Rev. Dr. Jules Erickson, Pastor at All Saints Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove, MN. Nine-session study, used by Grace women in circle meetings, begins September 2012, and is found in Gather magazine.
